First Real Project

The 1144 will work well. If you are using R8 collets I would make it to fit a 3/4" collet. Another thing you can do is making it with a deeper hole and thread for the saw retainer to bolt to, and leave the shank face that holds the saw plain, with just a small step to center the saw. Then, each time you mount the arbor in the collet, mount a lathe tool vertically in your mill vise and use it to make a light cleanup cut of the arbor mounting face and centering spud face with just enough of a new step to re-center the saw and enough off the center spud for clearance clamping the saw. It only takes a couple minutes. You will have zero run-out every time you use the tool, regardless of the mill's accuracy. This is a really easy tool to make, and is better than anything you can purchase. Make multiple arbors and retaining caps for different saw hole sizes if desired.
