I continued with the collet chuck I am attempting to make on my SB 9c. It went fairly well (no crashes or tense moments). I did it the way Halligan shows in his video with the tool bit turned upside down cutting off the back side. Unfortunately I went a little to far as the fit is looser than I wanted but I hope I can hold close enough tolerance on the register to make up for it.

After that will be the taper and the metric thread.

Should be ok, I made a 1 1/2 x 8TPI male piece for test fitting since I have made a few chucks and holders.

You may want to make a test piece before committing to the metric thread cutting on your chuck.

To my experience, the fit of the thread and register make little difference in true centering; the slope of the thread does the job. Having said that, I ALWAYS make a plug gage exactly the pitch diameter of the spindle to do the fitting.
