Anyone have source for fish oil? I person I knew painted a steel propane tank and kept it on deck of her sailboat. (Salt water)
After a year no rust. I asked how.
She said she used a primer that had fish oil in it.
Anyone know if it smells? Bought some liquid fish fertilzer, a few years ago, and what a smell? It did help the fish grow bigger! Lol!

Fish oil has been widely used in marine applications for preventing rust for a long time, Some hardware shops, paint specialists will stock it. but an obvious place might be one specialising in marine or boat parts / tools and equipment.

When I was a kid, 70 years ago, cod liver oil was a popular home remedy. My Mom used to feed us spoonfuls of the vile stuff. Nowadays, omega 3 oils are a fad as a dietary supplement. Most likely because of the vile taste, it is usually sold as gel caps. It would be an expensive way to get enough for a surface protector.

It and various other natural oils like tung oil, linseed oil, and flax seed oil were used in paints because of their ability to polymerize when exposed to air and because they were readily available. They have been replaced to a large extent by acrylics, epoxies, and urethanes. Epoxies and urethanes, in particular, are quite durable and immune to most chemicals. Failure is usually due to the underlying surface failing or poor surface preparation.

I prefer to get my omega 3 from fresh fish. (<== see avatar)

rustoleum has/had fish oil in it's primer and maybe in it's outdoor rust resistant paints. check with them??

Rustoleum rusty metal primer is what you want, available in brush and spray
#7769 is one of the numbers IIRC
That's actually Rustoleum's claim to fame: their fish oil vehicle paint mixtures

Just google " Industrial fish oil". Could be useful around the shop. That is if you love sardines, and don't mind the presence of cats and raccoons.

This is starting to sound a lot like joke of the day. Not that that's a bad thing. Mike
