I saw a nature special that said the pink pigment was a result of the small red crustaceans they eat. The pink colour varies with the food.
They have a weird way of eating that puts the flat tip of their beaks(beyond the bend) parallel to the water surface to try to filter the food.
Neat show. I enjoyed it, but I have never seen an episode of <insert any "reality" TV show here>.
