Flat Head 6 Cylinder

The finish was good and hard when I got out to the shop after a few days so I mounted everything back on and started on the ignition wires.
I made 4 brass wire holders to keep things neat.

I also cut out a wood box for the ignition module, batteries and off/on switch.

Sanded the box allover, stained, and finished it ready for installation next.

This is the ignition module I will be using. I have used probably used 6 or 8 of these in past projects. They really put out a good spark.

I mounted the wood box and made an aluminum cover for it. I included an off/on switch and finished up the electrical wiring.

Decided to start on the cooling system. I cut out a piece of 3/16" thick aluminum plate and also cut out some gaskets.
I always cut an extra gasket for what ever I am working on as that means I won't need it as the first works just fine. But cut out only one and it will tear or the holes will be in the wrong place so you have to make another anyway.

This will come off and back on several times and will have some gasket cement the last time after water piping is installed.

Jumped over to the exhaust side and decided to make stair step 90 degree shout stacks. The local hardware store has brass tubing in 3 foot long pieces at a reasonable price. They are 11/32 OD with a wall thickness of 0.014 but not solid brass. As you can imagine they are not bendable but I have used Cerrobend to fill the tubes in the past and if you are careful and lucky you can get a nice 90. Cerrobend is a metal that has a melting point of 158 degrees Fahrenheit that is poured into the tube and left to cool. The tube is then bent to the desired angle and then heated to melt the metal out and can be used over and over again. I have had varying degrees of success but mostly it works fine. Not this time. I cut 7 lengths of tubing 6" long and plugged one end. Out of the 7 pieces I had 2 good bends so I modified my method and tried 5 more pieces of tubing. Again I only had 2 good bends out of 5 but not to be deterred continued on 3 more pieces. ( good thing the pipe is relatively cheap) I got 2 good bends so now I had 6 pieces.
I think I was heating the metal too hot and caused a crystal to form when poured.
Any way this is how it turned out.

I also replaced the tie wraps on the intake runners at the cylinder head with proper clamps.

Oh yes it does run just not very well yet.
