Fly cutter

Sounds like a few custom toolholders to fit the slot are in order.
Yeah I had a 10mm hss blank. I'll have to make it a 1/2". Just bugs me cause I was trying to follow the numbers really closely.

If the tool head got pressed onto the arbor crooked, wouldn’t it spin not true? Similar if my head was tilted?

Nope. In order for the cutting edge to spin in a tilted orbit, the spindle would have to be tilted, i.e., out of tram. The tool is mounted in the fly cutter at an angle, but it still spins in a flat circle perpendicular to the spindle axis.

Ok. I think I get it. If the tool is tilted, it'll either be tilted away or towards and just spin that way. No different if I inserted the tool in the holder on an angle different than what I milled it to.
Took a few mins to wrap my head around.

I finished it. Used the R8 arbor I made for the cheap Chinese face mill I got rid of. Blued it up. Used the 1/2" cobalt tool blank instead of the 10mm I planned on. So it wasn't a total blunder.

I just have a quick grind on the tip. Just a radius with a bit of back rake.
Cuts pretty nice.

Now I can face the block of aluminum I plan on making AXA QC tool holders out of.
