Forging on the heel jaw of a Post Leg Vise ?

Hi Everyone,
I would like to do some forging of 3/16”-1/4” thick by 1 1/2” wide by 6” long mild steel for practice in
making a knife.
My question is : Is a 4 1/2” jaw width on an older post leg vice able to take being hammered by a mini sledge hammer hand forging mild steel ?

I do not think that it has the mass necessary to efficiently back up effective hammer blows, that is what anvils were made for.
