Found on Vintage Machinery - Great manual for an Oil Gear Pump brand - and trouble shooting surface grinding.

That takes me back, Rich; I ran one of those Mattison grinders, a 16 X 72" back in the shop of my apprenticeship, it had a badly worn plain bearing spindle, which I had to scrape in when we received a new part from Mattison. I made a dummy spindle and removed the machine's spindle and used the dummy spindle to do the marking, this machine did not have a pressure fed lube system for the spindle bearing, just a drip cup behind the wheel guard in a dirty environment, I relocated the drip cut where it was safe from contamination and easily seen and attended to. They used transformer oil rather than real spindle oil, not so good, I think.
