I just picked up the Bandsaw at a yard sale and while moving it some oil leaked out of the gearbox (I laid it on its side) and I wanted to know what kind of oil to put in it....

Any thoughts?

I use molly grease in mine. I didn't know those gear boxes were even sealed.

What did the oil look like, and was it thick and black?

They typically use an a SAE 80w90 gear oil or ISO 100. Go out and buy the cheapest gear oil you can get without extreme pressure additives. I would just drain and replace the oil.

Thank you, I'll try the gear oil, it looked like used motor oil, so it could have been gear oil when the saw was new.
