Getting good finish on carbide inserts with shallow cuts

The aluminum designed inserts don't stand up very long at all to steel, but they do allow for a good finish on an extremely shallow cut.

I tried using aluminum inserts on steel and it did not give a good finish at all even at shallow depth of cut. They aren't designed for steel.
