The Geek Group in Grand Rapids is running a CNC class. it is $500 and is a 10 week course all Saturdays starting January 10, 2015. In my book with relation to college classes it is a deal on price. For that you learn some CAD drawing and getting code ready for use on the HAAS mill and lathe, half class on computers there. Second half of the class is using the mill and lathe to make a project. You will build a steam engine in the class that you will be able to customize to some extent and take home when done. The place is supported by HAAS and has a grant to do training there.
I'm taking the class and am interested to learn the tools and be able to use them for my own projects later. The Geek Group is a Makerspace type place where you join for $40 per month but can use any of the machines there so I hope to be able to have CNC machines as a tool to use after learning how to do it. They also have 3D printers and many other things machinery related to use there.
