Hardinge V59 headstock, my good deal, mabe not...

I need to pull the headstock bearings out of my V59, I got this lathe pretty cheap, looked good, but I found the headstock spindle is hard to turn...can someone give me some pointers on how to go about taking the bearings and spindle out.

I would be really sure its the bearings that are the problem, some models have a brake built into the headstock, if it has a brake, make sure its not locked up or dragging. Do you have a picture of the lathe?
