Has anyone removed their main leadscrew - if so, any tips?

I pulled the pin, and have had no luck. I tried some heat, I tried a slap-hammer at the leadscrew end - this thing does not want to budge...

Watching with interest...I'll have to do this one of these days to get to the oiler, I believe.

These main two? For the threading one I just pulled the tapered pin and locked the half nuts and turned the carriage to the right and it slid right out. The other one pulled out pretty easily as well. So I guess I'm no help on this one ray. Good luck bud.

What was the end result here, rbahr? Any tips?

Hi Winegrower,

I ended up removing the half-nuts and using 2 C clamps put them around the leadscrew near the gear set box, then I used a portapower setup between the clamped half-nuts and the gear set box / body of the lathe and then let hydraulics do the rest. A small jack would probably work as well.
