heavy 10 spindle bearings

Just an up date, I spent some time today removing shims and adding thinner ones. I ended up with .0007 clearance on the front bearing as measured with a hanging scale attached to a piece of conduit 2' from the spindle and lifting to 37.5 # and reading the indicator, and .006 on the rear bearing. I chucked up a piece of mild steel and turned and faced it to see if the lathe worked any better. I think it helped. When I disengage the feed and pick up feeding by hand the tool chattered slightly but I couldn't hear it comming from the rear bearing like before. Will have to see how it acts during future projects but hopefully it will be O.K.
