Hi i hope this is the right spot for this question. I just bought a Clausing 5914 that came with a 6 inch (might be 6 1/4. forgot to measure it) in3 jaw and an 8" 4 jaw. Both are L-00 mount. The 8 is Poland so I know that's a older Bison. The 3 jaw has no markings on the chuck face or body. There is a recessed circle on the face where there was probably once a label and in that recess is stamped numbers (s/n I presume) and Made In Eng. See pics.

I'm going to guess its and old Pratt Burnerd.

Thanks, I think you are right. I just went thru their website. Looks very much like their 234 series especially the jaws the way they are cut on the face. Their 342 series has a flat face jaw. Also the 342 is not available as L-00 mount but the 234 is.

I hope it has the same precision as the 234. The lathe is in pieces so I can't check TIR yet.

Aside from surface rust, its in great shape with no slop and the jaws have nice sharp edges. never been crashed.

The two-piece jaws suggest this is a better quality chuck and the "made in eng" thing is typical of a Pratt chuck. Hard to tell the series by looking because the chucks have changed over the years but I think you have a good chuck there.
