This chuck was in the bunch of tools that came with my lathe.
I set it aside since it did not have the right thread.
Today I decided to clean it up and learn about it.
Although a bit of Purple Power was all it took to get rid of that rust-colored coating, I have not been able to find any information about it.:dunno:

It is a 3-jaw self-centering chuck, 6" in diameter.

The only markings are "samson w" and "GERMANY" on the outside.

The jaws are numbered and have "549" stamped on them.

It came with a backplate with an M45x2 thread.
Since it is very close to 1 3/4"-12 it could be the latter, however the diameter is exactly 45mm i.e. 1.766 inch.

Any information would be welcome.:help:

My mill is a Samson brand, though it is from Taiwan AFAIK. Doubt they are related. I do know they made a lathe as well, as I met the only other person I know of that has owned another tool from this company. He donated his to a local machine shop. That's about all I know about them.
