Hello, I have young friend who just got married and purchased an old farm house in Western NY and while diving around in the old barn he found a vise. I am a wood worker and hobby blacksmith and some machining, so he gave me a call and asked me the value of the vise. He is trying to restore his old house and would like to sell it but has no idea where to start on pricing. He sent me some pics and it turns out to be a 7” x7” HEUER bench vise from around the 30s in pretty good shape. I’m thinking in the $1200 range but I may be way out of line as I am not a vise guy. 9BE83356-2CB8-483C-A3B5-47FEC6A3B634.jpeg36D78AAD-11E4-43BC-985B-84CAD97DE0C4.jpeg212E0228-32D6-4DD0-8111-68F3FEBAC4ED.jpegB78944B4-8842-4816-A939-648EF32A1DB6.jpegAny help you can give us would be great. I don’t want to see this young kid get ripped of by some rust dealer who know his stuff.
Thanks for your time.

Honestly it doesn't look like a great vise for metalworking, kind of light duty- maybe 150$ tops
mark

I also feel this is not a great vise for metal work. Also for metal work the jaws are showing a lot of wear and the design does not have replaceable jaws so the casting would need to be milled.

I am also not a vise guy, but unless this has some value for the name and age, I cannot imagine this going for much more than the $150 range Mark mentioned.

I can say I would not buy this vise for my shop.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. Heuer is still making vises. They are very expensive, hence the $1200 guess. I searched the German (country of origin )flea bay siteand they run around the 150-200€ For one in gr at shape. I told the him to keep it. It was free.

It looks like it could be handy for certain bending and forming operations, with the wide throat it has. Hang on to it. :)

I'm a vise collector... I would say around $100.00

The kid text me today. Said he got $500 for the vise, a NOS 5’ 2 man saw replacement blade and 2 pieces of 8” railroad track. More power to him!
