Afternoon, was over on garage journal and the guys pointed me this way. I inherited an older lathe and could use some help figuring out what I have. First off, I guess I need to know how to post a picture! I don't see a way to attach, I had a photobucket acct but we know how that's worked out...

Someone at garage journal thought it looked like a clone of a South Bend model C, only markings I saw were stamped on the horizontal surface under the tailstock. Either a J1439 or perhaps a JI 439. Look forward to picking up some knowledge here, thank you!

+1 with the other site, looks like a clone of a Southbend to me. If it was a Southbend it should have SOUTHBEND in the casting on the bed.

The Lathes.UK page for the Southbend 9 lathes. Worthwhile taking a look so you can better compare.

Did you inherit any change gears? These are of use if you want to machine certain thread pitches.

Thank you Dave! I'll have to dig through the cabinets to see about gear change equipment. Tons of tooling in there. I also have a very very vintage Dalton lathe I picked up some time ago from a local guy. No real intentions on using it much but it's a 100 yr old piece of iron! It just looks cool sitting in the corner! I tune motorcycles for work and one of the shops I work out of has an old BSA lathe, I use it occasionally and was really excited to inherit this clone. I really dig using it.
