I have an old mitutoyo inside micrometer, it is very similar to the 141-233. I can't figure it out. How do the rods attach? The mic has a very short tip that has a male thread on it. The rods do not appear to be threaded. I assume I'm missing a component. Any help, part numbers, links, tips etc. Would be greatly appreciated. Here is what I have. Also, any suggestions for replacement foam in the old wood box?

Loosen the thumb screw and remove the body of the small anvil. You don't unscrew the tip like in your second pic.

Brilliant, I'll give it a go. That makes perfect sense, thank you very much!

As you know, that worked. The set came from a machinist who is no longer with us as has some corrosion. I just had to open the mic and gently tap it out. Thanks again!!

You might want to check the calibration on that tip that you disassembled.

I plan to check everyone. I make a habit of checking mic's before using them for critical measurements..... Well, maybe not the starrett 221 I use everyday.
