Hendey Lathe Refurbish

I reassembled the gearbox with new bearings and seals...



...and have it mocked up on the lathe...



This gearbox was removed from a 12 inch Hendey... the lathe is a 14 inch... I didn't think it was going to work. The gearbox sits about two inches farther back than it should, and I thought the flat belt was going to rub the 'tie bar' on top of the headstock. After mocking it up, I discovered that there is still plenty of clearance...



Now I need a motor. I have three motors available... a 1 hp 120v motor, a 2 hp 230v single phase motor, and a 3 hp 230v 3 phase motor... I'll probably use the 2 hp...

I came across this thread by first seeing your Hendey #3 thread. I’ve just read start to finish on this thread and am amazed at the quality of job you are doing. Really good read and I’m now going to read your other restoration threads. Thanks for posting this and keep up the good work
