HF Jack Stands - Safety Recall

Yep, I have a pair of the bad ones. Are the stores open for returns yet?

You'd have to check your local stores. Over here HF stores never closed, they were deemed essential, same business category as hardware stores.

Thanks for the heads-up! I just checked mine and they are on the recall list.

Finally dove deep into my garage to look at my oddball inventory of jack stands. I finally got a round tuit! Two of my 6 ton jack stands are on the recall list. I wiggled one of them while it was up and it dropped without warning! Really surprised me. Can't seem to repeat it. Doesn't matter - they are going back. Can't remember when I bought them, probably was 5-6 years ago.

Can't say that any of the "cheap" jack stands ever impressed me. I had a set of 3 ton jacks that I re-welded because there was zero weld penetration. The original welds were merely suggestions and more like surface blobs. Cold piled up metal. Ground them off and started over again. Now the welds penetrate to the back side. Also welded on flat pads to the feet to prevent the stands from digging in on asphalt. Now at least they are usable.

Inspect all of your stands, your life may depend on it!

I guess I saw this coming. Back in 2016, I bought these high-quality jack stands after purchasing the HF ones. These are expensive, but I feel comfortable going under my car using these. Esco 10498.

Took mine back last week. No questions asked. Didn't need receipt. They swapped them out for a pair of red ones.

Hmm, just turned mine in. Thought I'd get a new pair. Instead they gave me a gift card. The amount on the gift card was $39.99. Equivalent jack stands (6 ton) are ~ $52. There were too many people in that store this morning. Very long line. I'm going back later to ask for a new pair of stands, not a gift card. Feeling ripped off. Entered with jack stands, I think I should have left with replaced jack stands?

Well, if you figure the gift card works the same as cash and want replacement jack stands then find one of the 25% off coupons and your cost for $52 jack stands is $39 or so. And if you didn't need jack stands then you have $39 to spend on something else you need now. That's a better deal from Freight Harbor IMO, YMMV

I just received this email from Harbor Freight, looks like there some additional recalls

Important Information About Jack Stands
To the Harbor Freight Community:
I'm writing to apologize. I often reach out to tell you about Harbor Freight's commitment to quality and all the investments we've made to deliver quality tools at the lowest prices. Your trust matters deeply to me and I'm proud of how far we've come. So when we have a product recall, it hurts.
A few months ago, we recalled our Pittsburgh 3 ton and 6 ton steel jack stands (SKUs 56371, 61196 and 61197) due to a manufacturer's defect. We asked customers to return them and receive a gift card that could be used to purchase replacement jack stands. I felt terrible about that recall because you should never have a concern about the safety of any of our products.
Today, I feel even worse. I'm disappointed and embarrassed because we've identified a welding defect in a small number of the Pittsburgh 3 ton steel jack stands (SKU 56373) that replaced the recalled jack stands. We're now adding these jack stands to our recall. Unfortunately, this defect wasn't discovered during the initial recall investigation. If you own these jack stands or any of the jack stands in our original recall, whether or not you have had an issue with them, please stop using them immediately and bring them back to your local Harbor Freight Store for a full cash refund or store credit (see details here).
We have investigated all of our other Pittsburgh 3 ton steel jack stands (SKUs 56371, 56372 and 57308) as well as the Pittsburgh 6 ton steel jack stands (SKUs 56368, 56369 and 56370) and Pittsburgh 12 ton steel jack stands (SKUs 56374 and 56375) and did not find the defect. Although none of these other jack stands are being recalled, if you own any of them and have any concern whatsoever, please bring them back and we'll give you a full cash refund or store credit for those as well.
I want to apologize to all of our customers. While we've dramatically grown our team of engineers and inspectors, and intensified our tests and inspections, I assure you that the lessons learned from this will drive further improvement.
As the owner and founder of Harbor Freight, I want you to know that we stand behind every product we sell and that safety will always be our top priority.

I think I'd take the gift card. Spend it on something else and go buy some quality stands someplace else.

That is a powerful message from the HF CEO. I wish all business leaders took similar responsibility for their work.
