Not sure if this is the right sub forum.

Not metal working equipment, but I picked up an old 1/2 HP wood shaper for all of $20. Had a good laugh when I saw the motor switch...

I guess the previous owner was tired of reaching down to the toggle switch. Love the staple guide. Appear to work fine, so I'm leaving as is.

The stand needs some work, but it cuts wood pretty nice.

Looks like an old grinder motor? Dual shaft? In my mind that would be the only reason for the toggle switch on the base of the motor.

It is a dual shaft motor. I was looking around on "vintage machinery" and it appears Sears/Craftsman used the same dual shaft motor setup with the toggle switch on a lot of small tools. It does look original - has the brushed metal motor cover from that time period.

I could open it up and re-wire the switch, but I think that might be asking for trouble. When the power cord gives out, I'll have to decide what to do.
