Hitherto unknown 12700

No, mine is S/N 106781. But it looks like that one.

The 12700 is the same lathe on a different cabinet base. On the 12700, the left cabinet is wider, enclosing the countershaft assembly. And the cabinet is rectangular instead of the front and rear leaning in toward the drip pan at the top. It was probably a special Schools machine so that the instructor could lock the speed changing mechanism away from trouble making students. I've never actually seen one of them although I think that someone either here or over on the Yahoo Group reported having one.
