This is my first post to the forum. Over the weekend I purchased a used Grizzly G0769 combo lathe/mill. The purchase included a number of indexable carbide lathe cutters. Many of them look to be in usable condition however there are a number that need to be replaced. My question to the group is how do you identify the various shapes and sizes of these inserts? Is there a good site on the web that helps to do this? Also what are the better sites to purchase these from?

Thank you for that reply. I'm a visual person, so I found the Mitsubisihi site (Inserts 2) to be especially helpfull. Now that I can read the codes I need to understand which each means and what applications they are most suited for. Beig a first time hobbiest I'm really looking or an all around cutter to do most of my turning in aluminum and brass.

Thanks again,
Lloyd

I would go with High Speed Steel then and forget carbide.
