How to zero Mitutoyo 505-626 caliper

Dave, what do you mean beams? Are you talking a regular Vernier scale?
Yes . I trust them in the larger sizes . I'll use 6" dials and NO DIGITALS what-so-ever . I'll be getting a B&S 37" beam very soon to go along with the 24" and 15" .

I made a shim tool to get caliber to skip a rail tooth to reset to zero.Took me about 6 tries before I got it where I wanted it. You place the shim on top of caliper rail and roll over it and it jumps to a new spot . It is hit and miss till I got it where I wanted it. 1638822944950.jpeg

I reset 2 calipers to zero with shim tool that I made. Shim stock I had was .007 thick and I cut it so it would fit over the top of rail.
Once you have it on top of rail you roll over shim and it skips a tooth and changes the reading. I had to do it a number of times till I got reading I wanted.
And as I said in post #10 there is a video on you tube changing the reading by using a pin.
