How were you holding the tap? Were you tapping under power or by hand? Sucks to break a tap, especially a good one. :oops2:
 
Power tapping holding the wrench. I got greedy. I felt it tighten up and let go and I stopped, but instead of backing out, I turned again, *clink*... effff.

Well, hopefully you don’t have too much trouble getting the broken tap out of your work. There’s something to be said for backing out a little when it starts getting tight!!!

Nah, it’s a long piece of bar stock. I’ll just cut it off and do it again.
This is my first major swing at stainless... took me over an hour to get that step right and get as far as to break the tap... try again tomorrow, but, with a regular tap, cause that’s all I have left. Baby steps... baby steps...

What Cutting Lube?
What % thread were you going for?
The Devil is often in those few details ;-)
 
Stainless is one tough butch sometimes, and K Monel is even worse..........:headache:
