I searched for a thread on mystery tools with different search terms. I came up with a few, but didn’t find what I was trying to identify.

I won a lot of Starrett stuff on eBay and this came with it. I have no idea what it’s specific purpose.

It has 3 set screws that push on a ground piece of steel. The middle screw isn’t a set screw, it’s actually threaded into the piece of steel.

Anyone able to identify this?

Sure looks like a surface gauge base like used with a scriber. Here is an example.

It has nothing to do with a surface gage. I have seen pics of similar bases before, I stand by my earlier post.
