I have no idea

Thanks for posting
Big ole boring mill, when you have to climb a 4 step ladder to turn a hand wheel...… Looks like a 5-6" spindle for the boring
Cool old picture. Mikado? Was that a steam engine?
Cheers
Martin

Mike , that's a boring mill . We had a couple of Unions at the first shop and when the counter weight chain broke , you knew it in a hurry ! Ward Machinery had a BM about 30 ft tall and ran a pallet system .

It's old is all I know.
Obviously pre-OSHA

The Mikado is more properly described as a particular class of railroad steam engine. It was very popular and had a long service life.

Thanks for figuring it out, very interesting stuff. Pre OSHA, and sick leave too. Fall, and break an arm, back to work the next day, or don't get payed. Times have changed.

Seems like it would have been easier to turn the boring bar than the casting?? Boring head mounted on the spindle of a big lathe, casting on the carriage.
