Impact Driver Question

Just to clarify. An 'impact driver' is the type you hit with a hammer. Could be 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2" drive.

Yep but those are known as "manual impact drivers". With the invention of the cordless electric type, although very different tools, they still share the same name.
 
I also thought that maybe I just got stuck with a cheap set of impact sockets so I tried three different sockets. The first I tried was an old Craftsman (maybe 50 or 60 years old) then I tried another Craftsman from around 25 years ago and then the brand new Husky. Admittedly these sockets are from only two vendors but they all fit exactly the same way...
