WHEN I GOT MY MAXIMAT SUPER 11 LATE LAST YEAR ,
IT WAS MISSING THE LARGE CABINET DOOR .

I SOON FIGURES OUT HOW DESIRABLE THESE LATHES
ARE AND HOW TOUGH IT IS TO FIND PARTS .

MY SECOND PROBLEM IS THAT THE LATHE CAME WITH
PRACTICALLY EVERYTHING THAT EMCO OFFERED FOR THEM .

IT HAS A REVERSABLE JAW 3 & 4 JAW CHUCK ,
A CHANGABLE JAW 3 JAW CHUCK WITH THREE SETS OF JAWS
A DRIVE PLATE , A TAILSTOCK CHUCK ( REALLY COOL )
A STEADY REST & FOLLOW REST
A HORVATH ECCENTRIC CHUCK ( ON MY AVITAR)
A TAPER ATTACHMENT
LOTS OF TOOL HOLDERS
EXTRA GEAR SET
A COMPREHENSIVE SET OF 5c COLLETS & TOOLS .

MUCH OF THIS WAS NEW OLD STOCK IN THE ORIGINAL BOXES
A REAL BONANZA !

SO WHERE TO PUT IT ALL ?
I DID TRY TO MAKE A REPLACEMENT CABINET DOOR BUT NEVER PUT IT ON
BECAUSE THE LOCKER IS NOT REALLY ALL THAT USEFUL .

SO I BOUGHT A SHIPPING DAMAGED PROTO J441535 SIDE CABINET ON E-BAY FOR $80 .
THE DRAWERS AND SLIDERS CAN FIT INTO THE LATHE WITH A FEW CHANGES .

I ENLARGED TO TOP OF THE OPENING BY ABOUT 1 INCH & CUT OFF THE BOTTOM LIP .
I HAD TO RE-DESIGN THE FOOT BRAKE MECHANISM TO CLEAR THE SLIDERS .
( IT ACTUALLY WORKS A LOT BETTER NOW ! )

FINALLY I MADE A NEW FRAME FOR THE DOOR FROM 3/16 ALUMINUM ANGLES .
SO HERE IT IS . LOTS OF SPACE FOR TOOLS & ACCESSORIES NOW .

I PLAN TO MAKE SOME HEAVY SHELVING TO GO IN THE SMALL CABINET FOR THE CHUCKS .

Nice work. Kind of like cars, until you start to cut them up, their just like all the others. Mike

If you ever want to get rid of that Emco lathe, let me know, please.

I GOT IT FROM MY FORMER EMPLOYER WHEN THEY LAID ME OFF & CLOSED THE SHOP .
I KEPT AN EYE ON IT WHILE IT SAT IN STORAGE FOR YEARS . TO HAVE IT HOME NOW
IS A DREAM COME TRUE .

I REALLY DIDN'T KNOW HOW MUCH STUFF THAT HAD PACKED AWAY IN THE CABINETS .
THE IBM LAD THAT ORDERED IT IN 1990 DIDN'T HAVE 3 PHASE POWER SO THEY ORDERED IT WITH
120v SINGLE PHASE POWER , PLUG & GO BABY !

THE MOST EXPENSIVE THING I HAVE DONE IS OUTFIT IT WITH A DRO .
THAT MAKES IT INTO TWICE THE MACHINE THAT IT WAS .

NO , NO , I DON'T THINK I WILL EVER SELL IT . I HAVE GROWN QUITE FOND OF THE OLD MAXIMAT .
THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE WHEN I GOT IT HOME .

Great Idea

I have the same lathe with a DRO. I f I look carefully I see you have a draw bar for the collets.?? Mine was 3phase but converted via Vfd and a plc. (not by me). I will certainly be converting my cabinets . Thanks for a great Idea.
