Jacob’s spindle flex collet chucks

I have a Hardinge D1-4 C5 speed chuck, but I have a L00 and just got a Jacobs L00 on ebay for $50 for parts works perfect though. bought a few of the collets to be delivered soon from ebay and missing J915 918 919 920 so am on the lookout for the remaining collets. Looking forward to trying it out. Sold my pneumatic Royal draw bar that came on the lathe. not sure if I want to try to put a L00 on the Hardinge speed chuck, may be worth a try.

Nice score. Saw a bunch of those collets at a auction. Wanted to buy but the chuck went with a lathe.

Ive had my eyes out on the hunt for a setup like that but that chuck and my "hobby cash" seem to be like 2 ships passing in the night, without lights, horns or bells, in a pea soup thick fog, so close at times within .0000001" from becoming a reality Yet seem more sure to collide with the Moon before each other....:bawling:.....but I Digress....

Nice Score.

I tore into these two chucks to clean and oil them.
I found I have one almost new and one wore out Jacob’s chuck.
I watched a YouTube er, “House of Broken Dobbs”. He did a series on these chucks. Well done. I was able to attack with confidence after watching his series.
I can make a new pin and the collar is still serviceable but why would I ever use it? I have a perfectly good spare.825F18F0-C34C-4EDD-9627-111D1DA01046.jpegF531FBBE-21E3-4FF0-9258-FB640A6BC7A8.jpegF4DFB884-ED1E-48CD-B6A6-31531A1C4021.jpeg96C9CEF0-685B-44FF-BAE2-0513FB775F82.jpeg

Good idea.
I got it working last night. Made a pin and sizedpin.JPG it in the good flex collet chuck.
This pic is before I sized it.
Works great. I see how useful these chucks can be.
I used 4140, it sure doesn't machine as nice as 12L14.

These chucks are only desirable in certain sizes . I sold a L00 and a D1-8 , I can't give away a L0 . As far as runout . they are tight .
