I have an old Jet-8 model table top drill press. It has a 6mm (1/4") chuck. I am guessing it has a JT1 chuck mount. I would like to replace it with a 1/2" chuck, but can find no adapters or chucks to do this. It is comparable to most 8" table top drill presses that come w/ 1/2" chucks. Ideas??

Hi,

I can't find a manual on Jet's website with the info you gave.

However, it's likely that if your machine came with a small chuck that it lacks the power needed for drilling larger holes. Photos and/or an explanation of what you are planning to do would be helpful, drilling 1/2" holes in pine boards is very different than drilling them in tool steel.

Cheers,

John

A 3/8" chuck is probably the biggest that machine can handle since it likely doesn't have the slower speed pulley arrangement- you need to get down to around 250 rpm for 1/2" drilling in steel
