Was passing through Southern Vermont today and stopped at the rest area near Windsor, home of the American Precision Museum. In the Hartford I-91 Southbound rest area was a glass display case with two working models created by John Aschauer. His miniature working steam plant - which he made at 14 years of age - is on display at the museum. I snapped some cell phone pics of the Metal Planer and Bandsaw in the rest area display. The level of detail is mind blowing! Check out the pictures below...

I estimate the planer model is about 18" long.

The band saw is about 6-8" tall.

I taught a class in Springfield VT and I also toured the museum a couple of years ago too. Our host in Springfield was a volunteer and our tour was an after hour special. They took us up-stairs and we saw the upstairs where they keep all the cool stuff. The miniature displays are amazing. They also have the first serial number 1 Bridgeport mill among early guns, all sorts of machine tools. Another great museum is in Easton MD http://www.tuckahoesteam.org/collectionspages/collectionsmachine.html
