[Lathe] Just bought this Logan 815. I think 1946 but could not find the SN.

Just brought it home this afternoon. I've watched a lot of Pete222's YouTube videos to know a very little about this machine, but I checked almost every gear except the saddle gears and they all have great teeth. Everything seems to work and I did go through almost all of the threading gear changes especially the very lowest and everything works perfectly. Now I need a lot of lathe extras, the correct motor with the proper mount, a 3 jaw chuck key, etc. etc. I've got to find auctions around here. I joined this website today and I'll be reading it daily to find out how this machine works.

Serial number is at tailstock end of lathe on front way..nice lathe.
 
Oh boy! Now you have the bug! Before long you will have a mill with all the tooling, a surface grinder..... The list goes on and on. I believe there is no cure.

Yep, looks just like my 820, and the bench and legs are what differentiates the two. Wonderful machine, you'll love it! What's the S/N?

Found the SN: 32268. This morning I found out there aren't any motors like this one. Has the 3/4" shaft and 1/2 HP. I took it out and bought a new capacitor and it runs without having to spin it at the start. Fixed that part but the motor guy would be 2-3 months out to take a look at cleaning it up and checking the starter windings. Anyway, it runs for now.

S/N 32268 puts you in 1945 for a build date. It looks as though tmenyc has got it right: it's probably an 820, or and 815 which was the
same machine without the legs. If you aren't aware of it, Logan still sells
parts for your machine as well as manuals: http://www.lathe.com
They also have a FAQ on their website that may be of interest to you: http://www.lathe.com/faq/index.html
I would suggest getting the manual and parts list for it which can be ordered from Logan, or usually downloaded
somewhere. It's full of useful information, and can help if you need parts. eBay is actually pretty useful for Logan
parts, since there were lots of them built.
 
The latest version of the Logan Serial Number spreadsheet shows it was built between 8/20/45 #32071 and 8/30/45 #32385.

There is a mailing list that Scott Logan participates on, this was moved a year or two ago from "Yahoo Groups" to "groups.io". You can ask for your machine to be added to the database. The mail traffic is relatively low. I am signed up for the "full featured digest" and I get about one message a day.
