I never thought about that.
You would need to have a good quality, well balanced motor for the direct drive applications.
Our spindles are belt driven which, to me, seems to be a better design.
Although, there are some very good grinders out there that are direct drive.

I got one of these when I bought the contents of a home machine shop recently. Hopefully I'll be able to dig into it some time this year when a few more projects get checked off.

I'm curious about what I can with it.
