This face plate came with my Clausing lathe. The taper and key slot seem correct, but there are no threads to tighten it onto the spindle nose. The only way that I can think it could be used is with some sort of drawbar. Any ideas?
Thanks

That looks to be a specially made face plate, probably for a special job seeing as the plate is cut on the face. I think the part was mounted on the plate in the cut diameter, and then part and plate were drawn in by a draw bar as you're thinking. It was probably easier to center the part that was being cut with that face plate.

It looks like the threaded portion may have been removed, but you are right, if only some of this old stuff could talk.
