I saw a video a while back where the profile was cut out and attached to the back frame of the lathe, a rod attached to the cross slide so you could follow the profile of the original.

Has anyone made such device to use and how did you like it? I am thinking about trying it out.

I was thinking of putting a rod attached off my tool post or cross slide to follow a pattern clamped on the back of lathe of the part I want to replicate.

Pattern jig, pantograph jig, copy jig... no uniform terminology that I know of.

This one was almost lost to time, but it's still there: https://www.hobby-machinist.com/threads/a-simple-manual-tracing-attachment-for-any-lathe.19162/

Here's another type
