This came up in a conversation the other day. Man said, "Nothing seats in my tailstock." Did you advance the quill a bit to see if that solved the problem? DOH. There is also another frustrating situation with the opposite effect of how to get the insert back out. In a perfect world retracting the tailstock quill will eject the insert. But the taper length has to match the quill. I bought a live center & a Jacobs chuck for my lathe. Both were too short for proper ejection, so I made a spacer. Problem solved. So, I took that 'sweet length' & designed it into the die holder shaft I made. Seems the 'sweet length' is different from brand to brand & model to model. Hope this helps!
