I am trying to build a self-centering drilling jig for drilling into stair parts like rails. If anyone is familiar with the 'Bore-buster' basically that, but my own frankenstein version. I have a bore-buster and it will not work for my current project. Plus it has always rather sucked, and i think i could make a much better version- and that tool is now unobtanium, and the bits even worse.

The bore buster, and i assume lots of self centering vises use threaded rods that have both left and right threads, so when you turn the knob both sides of the tool close or open up. Ideally i'd like to find some M8 left/right rod that is 150-200m long. I searched all over but am not coming up with much. I searched for double ended studs, threaded rod, left and right thread everything, left and right thread coupling nuts (to make my own). All the McMasaster permutations i could come up with. I found versions that are too short, or very large diameters, which i don't want to use for weight. Yeah i realize even if i found it i'd need the left nuts/knobs etc. Open to other ideas, but a 200mm M8 left right threaded rod would get me there i think. If i cant find anything i guess i'll have to fixe one side of the jig and only adjusts one side.

No lathe, so i cant make one, even if i had a clue how.

McMaster-Carr is another option.
