Hello:
I have Derbyshire Model A lathe and need to find a compound cross slide (I think thats what its called - I'm a woodworker!) and tool post. I'm under the impression the Model A and the Magnus use the same unit. The picture is of a Magnus with the cross-slide I am after. They seem to be pretty rare! Derbyshire still makes them but they are are quite expensive, and I have been monitoring ebay but they remain elusive.

Does anyone have some suggestions on where I might locate one?

Thanks,
Terry

Hi and welcome. Most standard watchmaker lathes have a 50mm center height and cross slides for them can be found without too much trouble and $$$. The Model A has a center height of 75mm. So the cross slide is a tad bigger and not as common and still $$$. Depends on your needs? You can shop around for the correct cross slide. Or maybe get a smaller one and block it up so it has the correct height. Good Luck…Dave

Thanks for the response and info Dave. I'm patient for now (no telling how long that will last!) so I'll bide my time and keep looking.
