I removed this mag starter from an IR compressor that I'm rebuilding, and using it on a single stage Quincy I've been going thru. The bake-lite housing is broken around the bottom of one of the line in connections. I disassembled the starter, cleaned the contacts and reassembled, and it works as it should. The stiff #10 wire holds the contact up in place just fine, but would like to make a permanent fix. Was thinking of trying regular JB Weld to capture the the rivet that once held it in place. Yeah, I know, just replace it, but it just goes against the grain to throw out something that is otherwise perfectly functional. Anyone tried anything similar, that was successful? Thanks, Mike

Perfect job for JB weld! 1001 uses! (unabashed product plug)
Seriously, JB works great on bakelite, just degrease well first, and use a heat source to cure like a light bulb nearby
I don't like scrapping things either, we throw too much away already, plus the new replacement is often not as high quality as the old

Have to go do plumbing and electrical work on a rental for the next couple days, but will follow up soon with repair results. Got all of the other issues on the compressor handled, and she runs great up to 140psi no problem, and kicks back in at 110. Stole the unloader diaphragms out of the rebuild kit for my model 325, 2 stage unit, as they are the same as this 216 model. Unloaders now function as they should. Also got square o-rings from the same kit (which aren't used on my older 325model) for the unloader control valve which was leaking oil. fixed a bunch other minor air leaks, fittings, plugs, and such. She's now air and oil tight, and nice and quiet. Mike
