MAKING A POLYCRYSTAL (CBN) INSERT TOOL HOLDER

The problem with drilling a hole in the insert, is now you have to drill ALL of them, and the location of the hole must be fairly precise.

What's in that booklet? Anything interesting (like usage of an ELBOR insert)?
What booklet you refer to?

You can get regular style carbide inserts with one cbn corner. Cubic Boron Nitride. They gleefully eat hardened steel leaving an amazing finish! The chips look like fine steel wool and often burn... I mean literally combust on the lathe bed!

I know there are plenty available in Ebay. The thing is that they are not cheap and they offer just a tiny amount of CBN to one corner.
I bought one to test it though!

Those inserts, and most on ebay appear to have negative rake at the cutting edge? Am I seeing that correctly?

You are probably right! They work ok on either negative rake or on zero rake though. I' m not an expert on the subject to give you more info.
