Some years ago, I casted some aluminum gears and a housing to run them in. It was a fun endeavor
to make a new set from steel. The project started with a flat chunk of 3/4 inch hot roll that was band
sawed into some 8 sided gear blanks. After a bit of machining to make them round, I cut a pair of gears
using the mill and a rotary table. These gears are used on the Springfield lathe for the middle range of
threads and feed rates.

Here's a photo of the new gears in the housing. In the foreground are the old aluminum gears and piece of the 3/4 hot roll
used to fashion the new gearing. I consider it a pretty good upgrade for the lathe to add to my list of improvements.

Nicely done, it's great to see people making things on lathes and mills rather than 3-D pollution printers.
The old aluminum gears look like they are still in great shape.
