The other day a friend told me that a local shop was getting ready to scrap all their old HSS cutters for their horizonal mill. He said if I wanted them he would bring them over. I used my forklift to unload the pallet. Almost 200 cutters, in all.

He had taken all the small gear cutters. I am keeping anything that has a 1" arbor or smaller. I don't have anything that can handle a larger cutter. At least, I would not try it.

This leaves 124 cutters with 1-1/4" arbor size and larger. 54 are gear cutters, and I believe they were a full set, plus some bevel gear cutters. I put the word out locally, and one fellow is interested in the circular cutters. I am hoping I can donate the gear cutters somewhere where they will be used to repair, restore, and maintain old machines and machinery. Ideally, it would be a program where young people can learn how to use "old school" manual machines, and keep that knowledge alive.

I'd like to keep these in Western Oregon, but if I can't find a home for them locally, I would be interested in hearing of places that might be worthy. Feel free to send me a PM.

Below are the gear cutters and some samples of the rest of the cutters.

Thanks! I'll put them on the list of possibilities. I'm trying to keep them closer to home, if possible.

You can use them yourself if you make adaptors to fit the cutters to your mill arbor. I have a small horizontal mill with a 1" arbor. I made adaptors so I could use 1 1/4", 1 1/2", and 2" cutters. As long as they fit between the arbor and the overarm support, they are good to go. Here are some pictures of the adaptors I made.

I don't have a horizontal mill. I do have a Bridgeport and a Wells Index 847, so I am limited to R-8 adapters.

Make straight shank arbors to fit these cutters, then mount them in an endmill holder.
