Milling Problem

Ted, what do you consider a light finishing cut? I'm asking because I don't know what is considered appropriate.

As in all things "it depends", but I guess, in general, most of my finish cuts when I care about size and/or finish are probably around 0.005"-0.010"

Thanks for that and as promised here is a pic of the flats all done. The finished collet block pics are in the Project of the Day Thread (will be soon anyways). Using ooil sure makes for a mess but I couldn't do this without it. Learn something new all the time.

Wreck - thanks for that link. I have been milling with about 75% of the cutter engaged in the cut and will try 50% on the next run. By the way, after I reduced the speed, feed and used lube I didn't get any more of those long strands.

FWIW - I usually find that using a 30% cutter engagement works best.

Hope that helps,

-Ron
