Recently, I bought an old wood lathe. It came with a big box of lathe parts from other lathes. There were a bunch of 1-1/2x8 threaded plates, probably from a Powermatic. None of them fit all the way on. I tested one, and it had a diameter of 1.505" while the spindle register measured 1.5115". So, I bored out 0.007" more, and it fit just great. I am going to drill the holes out to 3/8". This will be my only faceplate. That's what I get for buying a budget priced lathe with essentially no tooling.
This should help someone with the doesn't fit problem. Not all 1-1/2x8 threads are identical. Some machining required.
