Motor switch out

That is good!! I would consider it if it was cheaper then a motor swap. I'll keep it in mind for later consideration though.
 
Haven't got to it yet! I noticed another problem. The run capacitor for the LATHE motor is only supposed to be 12uF and the one that came with the replacement motor is 20uF!!! I guess I need to find a replacement!
 
my 2 cents,
don't be too concerned with a 20uf cap, a 12uf might have been spec for the motor,
but i don't think a difference of 8uf would be a concern.
if the motor runs and doesn't get hot or sound funny, let it go until it fails, but if the motor doesn't run by all means replace.

if you are going to replace, might i suggest getting a run capacitor that is oil/liquid filled for longevity, avoid the polyester dry type.(they work but fail quicker)

I haven't been around much been busy figuring out what I a m going to do with my setup. For the mill I'm going to keep the motor as is and going to rewire to 220V then I'm going to go with a Hitachi NES1-004SB 1/2HP 1-phase In 3-phase Out 200-240volt Phase Converter/Inverter and NES1-OP Drive Option to go with it. Cost will be $164.
We are looking at rewiring the control box on the lathe and using motor control contactors to replace the rotary switch functions. The switch will be used to activate the contactors for Forward/Revers and High/Lo Speed. Cost will be $50 plus any hookup wire I may need to buy.

Update on my rewiring of my Maximat V10-P Mentor. I have tossed the 440v transformer idea and bought new magnetic contactors with 220V coils. Replaced the main contactor. Then gave up on the rewiring of the switch just couldn't get the right combination of wires. So I have used the switch the run 4 small contactors which will do the switching for me. So I have 1 for the Forward, 1 for Reverse, 1 for Slow Speed, and 1 for Fast Speed.
The jumpers are just temporary for now. I'll tin them for the final assembly once I'm satisfied everything is working as I intend. I'll do a dry test to make sure the relays all function in the proper sequence before I connect the motor to the contactors. Also since I will only be using 1 single phase motor the run capacitor will be mounted inside the connector box.
