mounting a dro on my small mill & a shameless offer

Nice job Bloomingtonmike any chance you can write up how you did the mod on scales to work with shumatech dro thanks Dave

+1 on asking BloomingtonMike to write up how to set these up with a Shumatech DRO-550.

Daveh, are 12", 24", and 36" the only lengths available?

the lengths quoted are the "reading" lengths. the actual length is of course a few inches longer.
there are also 6" ones. I did inquire about 48" but that was answered with a "no, sorry"

Davidh, I asked about lengths because I'm cosidering putting some on my MicroMark 7 x 14 lathe.

I just went out and checked the one I took off of my South Bend is 39 1/2" over all. It worked fine except it was to short i really liked it for boring.

Some times I would forget and run it into the end. Still works ok just to short for me. I started to put it on my LeBlond lathe but decided to get a Sinpo for it also.I've even got a new 12" laying around the shop somewhere.

I never had any trouble with it reading slow, If it would have I would have hit the end of the blind whole I was doing.

If there is a 6" il take two Davidh email me.

On a trip this week but I will get that part number for the digikey mini USB part later. It's on shumatechs yahoo page too.

I don't know if I posted this or not. its the mounting infor for the "Y" on my mill. I fixed the reader to the lower frame of the machine with a modified offset bracket and the bar does the traveling and it is only fixed onto one end, to the yellow guard.. it was a bit difficult to figure out but it works and that's what counts. I have not secured the cord yet but the clearance for it is ok. . . I did keep the drawings / sketches.

I really enjoy drilling and tapping little holes I can't hardly see. . . .
