Mower blade for knife

Hi,
Most plain carbon steels critical temp is 1550 degrees. (DULL red!)

Quench in warm thin oil, I use cheap tranny fluid.

After quenching, steel should skate a new file like glass.

Temper at 350 for 2 hours in an oven or polish and draw back to a straw color on cleaned steel. (File should now TRY to grab when testing!)

There is also heat cycling before quenching to refine grain structure along with final edge packing while forging at critical temp but that is more advanced and trying to keep this simple.

There is a reason, that hand forged hunting knives, out perform something you bought at Cabela's!!!
