I trust this was a commercial drain cleaner and not "real" sulfuric!
That description says "the serious stuff" to me! Yeek!

Yea. with the "real" stuff you add a little VERY CAREFULLY hydrogen peroxide to it and you get what we called Piranha. That stuff will eat a chicken leg as fast as you can dip it and get it back out!! Makes it VERY warm as well. Don't use in plastic or metal pipes! Kind of a glass/quartz and Teflon only sort of thing.
"Real sulfuric acid". I wasn't fooling around with these drains. The drains were flushed with water afterwards, moments after I got the jug out of the way. Didn't want any water to get into the acid! Order of operations matters.
I had about a couple inches of 93% sulfuric acid in the bottom of the big reagent bottle. Knew it would work and it did.
Of course no good deed goes unpunished. Replaced a valve flat washer seal in the shower valve. Seal didn't come out with the assembly. Had to create a wire pick to get over an inch into the valve. But all my stuff got moved. Scrounged in the garage and found a bent piece of steel wire that was hanging off a nail. Said scrounging in house and garage took a half hour. Shower valve was repaired. Got cocky and decided to replace the cold water faucet gasket. That was my downfall. No gasket came out with the valve. Can't see into this valve because it's below the tub line and because there's a little water weeping out. Fooled around with it and decided to just put it back together. However there's a seal that's torn, and it's not in my washer seal kit I just bought. Tomorrow I need to go to the hardware store to see if I can find the right part. The valve assembly is not working correctly. It leaks and if I tighten the outer nut so the leak stops, then the valve handle won't turn. This is in my bathroom shower, so I need to fix it for myself...
I did manage to paint the ceiling in a 12x13 room. The paint has poor hiding quality. I'll need to do it again. Put two coats on, it's better but I can see some of the less desirable features bleed through. Gosh, I dislike ceiling painting!
Just another day trying to get ready for an open house. I'll be glad to be done fixing things here. AC guys will be here tomorrow afternoon. Can't believe how much a recharge is, I consider it serious money, especially since I will only get to enjoy it for a week or two...
You should know by now, it F.... with something long enough, your going to break it.

Sort of fixed the leaking valve, need to go get some packing material for it. Sealing washer had torn off and welded itself to the bottom of the valve. Blind access made that a tough one. Fought me for days. Finally got it using a drywall screw and turning it through the hole and trying to pull it out.
Finished ceiling painting yesterday. (At least all I'm going to do before Saturday.) Did a dump run in the morning. Got to go to home despot for valve packing. Replaced an outlet. Is it perfect? Nope. Does it have appeal to those who like an older home, I think so. Off to the store for the packing.

Thanks for the tips on packing and silicone grease. Took me several tries, but got it to seal. Practically feels like normal. The grease helped. Lubed up the nut bearing surface. Of course, I put in too much packing and had to unwind quite a bit. Not dripping through the nut threads, nor the stem. I'll take this as a success. Seriously, thanks.
I got no help from the HW store or a wholesale plumbing supply, or a plumber's counter. They just wanted me to spend thousands to update (needlessly) rather than to repair. I would have paid them to repair it and it would have been worth their while, but all they want is plug and chug, spend spend spend.
I feel relieved. Hopefully things will go smoothly from now on...

Working, painting and trimming some outdoor stuff. Moving junk around, to get it out of the way.
Then a humorous wrinkle. 10 minutes before the realtor shows up my wife goes into the laundry room and turned on the light but no light came on. No spare bulbs here. Stole a bulb from our solitary lamp and screwed it into the laundry room fixture, we have light. The burnt light bulb in question was a compact fluorescent. I had written the install date on the side, 10-26-2006! That light worked for just shy of 20 years.
The realtor showed up and I pointed out the light. We had a laugh over it. Did a walk through and she was pretty happy.
Afterwards I went to HD to get a couple lights. Was surprised that their light bulbs had adjustable color temperature. Man, I must have been living under a rock... Got home and installed the bulbs. It was a tricky fixture, you really needed 3 hands, for the globe, the retaining ring and the nuts. Thought I was going to drop it a couple times. Well that's done. Hope I can relax, but no, there's always a bit more clean up to do. After I drink this water have to get back at it!
